Karen's Ranger EV

 

Karen Norman-Boudreau Ranger EV conversion is a recent arrival to her household from Ebay. It has already appeared in the North Bay Eco-Fest held on Oct 2nd and 3rd, 2004.

Stats and pictures follow. All the pictures below are  from the previous owner on Ebay (slightly modified).

Donor vehicle:

 1988 Ford Ranger

traction battery pack:

 156V (26 type US2400 or Trojan T-145 6V flooded)

  • 4 batteries under the hood
  • 16 batteries under the tiltbed
  • 6 batteries in toolbox behind the cabin in tiltbed
    (have to be removed to tilt bed and access those beneath)

traction motor:

 21 HP GE series-wound motor

transmission:

 original automatic transmission (modified for EV use)

brakes:

 vacuum assist

steering:

 power steering pump available, but presently manual for greater range (less energy usage)

DC-DC converter:

 Todd, upgraded for 156V traction pack

charger:

 Bycan 110/220V input, upgraded for 156V traction pack

instrumentation:

  • Link 10 E-Meter
  • Westberg analog voltmeter
  • Westberg analog ampmeter

tires:

 high pressure (50 psi) light truck radials

cabin heater:

 electric ceramic core heater, which works with the original ducting

charger interlock:

 yes

vehicle conversion company:

 Original conversion - Pro-EV (for the city of Santa Rosa) with 120V battery pack. Previous owner upgraded to 156V.

 No power steering. Given very little initial instruction, so fried charger and waiting two months for repair.
