NBEAA Newsletter May 13, 2007 DON PRICE'S PASSING ------------------- I am very sorry to announce that our fellow NBEAA member Don Price of Petaluma passed away on April 24th. He was an enthusiastic advocate of EVs, proudly driving his 1980 Plymouth Horizon EV conversion -- see http://www.nbeaa.org/price/body_don__s_horizon.html for pictures and a description of his EV. He was very grateful to all of the members of the NBEAA who helped him out with his EV over the years, so he decided to donate his EV to our chapter. Mark Armstrong's Santa Rosa Junior College Alternative Fuel Vehicle class is in the process of refurbishing it. You can see the vehicle at our meeting at Mark's shop next week on May 21st -- see below for meeting details. Please contact Chris if you have any suggestions on what we should do with the vehicle once we're done -- ideas include auction with a reserve price of the refurbishment cost, and sell it at refurbishment cost to the Post Carbon Institute as a City Share Pool Car. Santa Rosa Jr. College offers four exciting alternative fuels courses that are not only innovative and educational, but one of a kind. What makes our program one of a kind is the combining of a traditional class lecture that one would find in the science department, with a hands-on shop course that one would find in our Trade-Tech department. We teach "how to" then we "do". This year we have added an exciting new option to our list of building projects. Since the inception of the program electrical output fuels have always been a large part of the "alternative" fuel mix. This year, just in time to fuel up from Trade-Tech's new solar array, we have started a build on our very first EV. We are currently developing an EV build protocol/recipe-list, with the hopes of more quickly duplicating our EV work and expanding on the class' efforts.
