NBEAA PAST MEETINGS AND EVENTS
Listed in reverse chronological order.
Ron will show off his Volt, give rides, and answer questions on a wide range of EV topics. Come join us to see this new car and celebrate a significant milestone in automotive history with one of the key players in the movement!
NOTE: in the event of larger than normal attendance, Alan has agreed to stay after continuing to give rides until he gets low on charge. But since some people may not be able to stay late, Chris Jones will have a clipboard and will be taking names of those interested in a ride along with the time of their arrival, and Alan will give rides in the order of arrival. Chris will arrive by 9:30 AM.

"Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment" (A.K.A. EVSE or Charging Stations)
The new J1772-2009 240 volt 30 amp level 2 charging station interface will be discussed, demonstrated,
and compared to J1772-2001 "Avcon", Small Paddle Inductive (SPI), Large Paddle Inductive (LPI), Tesla
and NEMA. Nissan Leaves and Chevrolet Volts come with J1772-2009 inlets, and many new public EV
charging station outlets -- most of them still free -- are being installed with this new interface.
Pilot signal operation will be discussed, including what the charging station needs from the car and
what cars that come with J1772 need from the charge station. Adapters going both ways between
J1772-2001 and J1772-2009 as well as to 14-50 will be shown. Share your experiences of using these
chargers around the Bay Area. Charging stations will be opened up and shown. Please bring a folding
chair in case we swamp the facility and use up all of their chairs.

Ron Gremban, Technology Lead for CalCars, is the proud owner of one of the very first Chevrolet Volts, the world's first production PHEV. CalCars successfully advocated for the auto companies to build plug-in vehicles by pioneering the first-ever PHEV conversion of a Prius (Ron's other car), and is now advocating for the mass-produced conversion of millions of gasoline pickup trucks and larger vehicles into PHEVs and BEVs, in order to advance the electrification of transportation by a decade. Ron is now also working on a project, in partnership with Cessna, to electrify the most popular light aircraft ever built, the Cessna 172.

The CAFE Foundation is inviting the NBEAA group to come to their hangar to talk about electric aircraft, the Electric Aircraft Symposium,
and the NASA Green Flight Challenge for 2011. There are actually electric aircraft currently flying -- you may have seen some in the news.
There are also a couple of companies that are preparing to sell electric aircraft. The CAFE Foundation has been around for about 30 years.
The CAFE Foundation has been involved in helping the aircraft industry improve the efficiency of general aviation aircraft. For the last 4 1/2 years
they have held the yearly Electric Aircraft Symposium in the Bay Area to help promote the development of electric aircraft.
They are also involved with NASA to organize an aircraft efficiency contest that will be giving away $1.5 M in July of 2011.
This contest will be held at the Sonoma County airport. This contest will be to test the efficiency of many different propulsion types,
including electric motors. Come to this meeting to talk about the state of the art designs and proposals of these future aircraft.

Getting Up Off The Couch 101", SRJC Alternative Fuel Vehicle Program (AUTO 190-192)
If you're not happy with our current fuel options you can either sit on your couch and complain about it, or get up and do
something about it. Santa Rosa Jr. College offers four exciting alternative fuels courses that are not only innovative and
educational, but one of a kind. What makes our program one of a kind is the combining of a traditional class lecture that
one would find in the science department, with a hands-on shop course that one would find in our Trade-Tech department.
We teach "how to" then we "do".
This year we have added an exciting new option to our list of building projects. Since the inception of the program
electrical output fuels have always been a large part of the "alternative" fuel mix. This year, just in time to fuel
up from Trade-Tech's new solar array, we have started a build on our very first EV. We are currently developing an EV
build protocol/recipe-list, with the hopes of more quickly duplicating our EV work and expanding on the class' efforts.
Come by and charge your EV from one of our four new L6-30 240 volt 30 amp single phase 2 pole AC power outlets.
